Short Form Improv (Wednesdays 2/11-3/18 @6:30pm)

Class Description
In this fast-paced class, you’ll learn how to apply all your improv skills to short form game based improv. You’ll learn some of the most popular short form games like those seen on Whose Line is it Anyway and Wild n’ Out. You’ll learn how they work, techniques to take advantage of the game based format, and how to add your own unique personality to the mix.  Short form improv feels a lot like stepping out onto the high wire without a net… but you do have a hidden net!  The structures of the games give you tools and time tested techniques that insure success and there is an emcee/referee who works getting audience suggestions and guiding the games to make you look as brilliant as you are!  The class will culminate with the opportunity to put all of those skills onto the stage in a show for friends and family!
Teacher Bio
Michael Wilcoxen

has been teaching/performing short form improv for over 30 years.  Most of his training has been through ComedySportz San Jose where he was a performer and teacher.  During this time, he was also a member of a world champion team TWICE!!  (Not as impressive as it sounds since the city hosting the yearly world championships always wins)  Michael served as the Director of Education for CSz San Jose for over ten years where he discovered his teaching style of developing and nurturing students in a supportive and challenging environment.  He genuinely loves teaching short form improv and introducing improvisors to this very unique style of “making stuff up.”

Showcase: 3/25

Financial Assistance

We understand that financial circumstances can sometimes make participation challenging. Please know that your presence, voice and contributions are valued here, and we are committed to making our programs as accessible as possible.

We have a few ways to help folks experience our classes. First off, all of our volunteers can take up to one full level class every term. Our volunteers learn positions at the theater and agree to a regular schedule at either our box office, tech booth, or our HM position which helps get the shows started on time. If you have a skill or trade or item that could be of benefit the theater, we're open to talking to you about it. We also offer payment plans for more flexibility, look into them at check out.

If those options aren't helpful, we offer an inclusion scholarship that will help Rise best reflect Denver. If you feel that you have a perspective and experience that Rise could benefit from we offer scholarships each term for our leveled classes. Apply below.
