Another Type of Comedic Offering: Karaoke Nights at Voodoo

Karaoke 11x17You may know us for our original comedy shows, but have you checked out our gut-busting karaoke nights? On Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday you can show off your chops at RISE Comedy Playhouse, whether your jam is “I Will Always Love You” or “Baby Got Back.” Got stage fright? No worries, down a cocktail or two from our full bar before you step into the limelight. Still not convinced? Watching your friend make a fool of himself and YouTubing his shame may be even better.

And now, for some inspiration, a few epic karaoke movie/TV scenes:

Rush Hour 2: Chris Tucker – “Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough”

  • Get closer, ooooh get closer. Who can resist the air humping and ungodly high notes? Ch’mon’, Lee, ch’mon’!

My Best Friend’s Wedding: Cameron Diaz – “I Just Don’t Know What to Do With Myself”

  • She’s so bad it’s good. Horribly off pitch yet wildly loved by her audience (minus Julia Roberts whose karaoke shame plan fell through). “That was terrible, terrible,” her fiance says as he commences to make out with her.

When Harry Met Sally: Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan – “The Surrey With the Fringe On Top”

  • Harry croons the first notes on the “singing machine,” as he calls it, and Sally soon joins in to demonstrate that the couple has musical as well as sexual chemistry. “It’s my voice, isn’t it? You hate my voice.”

Friends: Courtney Cox – “Delta Dawn”

  • Monica Geller loves an adoring audience, even if they’re cheering her bare ta-tas and not her singing ability. “Hey, did you hear that one shouting ‘Look at those tips’! I mean, did I really help you get a lot of tips?”

What would you add to the list? Ready to take the mic yourself? We’re waiting for you down at RISE Comedy Playhouse!
