“This workshop goes one step at a time through a series of warm-ups and exercises to get everyone in class making up 2-4 bars at a time that are on beat and that get laughs by the end. Focusing on rhyme games and confidence building, we’ll cover all the basics to strengthen your skills or even just getting started on this journey. We’ll cover everything from counting beats, different ways to set up your rhymes, and mindsets that will help make the flow of words come out easier and, more importantly, better. Don’t let a fear of thinking you could never do it stop you from trying, and we promise you will be impressed with yourself!”

Instructors: This workshop is led by the freestyle rap duo Once Upon a Rhyme. Dylan Oakes Rohde founded The Backline Comedy Theatre and Omaha Comedy Fest, and trained with members from Wild N Out, Shamilton, North Coast, Acaprov, and Mixtape. Rodney Conyers, Jr. is an Esports Commentator and Freestyle rapper who also trained with Freestyle Love Supreme. They are now in multiple groups/shows besides their duo like Gett’n Rowdy and Zip-Zopera: The Improvised Hip-Hopera, and have taken their show on the road to cities like Denver, Kansas City, New Orleans, Tampa Bay, and most recently Mobile’s first improv festival.

Financial Assistance

We understand that financial circumstances can sometimes make participation challenging. Please know that your presence, voice and contributions are valued here, and we are committed to making our programs as accessible as possible.

We have a few ways to help folks experience our classes. First off, all of our volunteers can take up to one full level class every term. Our volunteers learn positions at the theater and agree to a regular schedule at either our box office, tech booth, or our HM position which helps get the shows started on time. If you have a skill or trade or item that could be of benefit the theater, we're open to talking to you about it. We also offer payment plans for more flexibility, look into them at check out.

If those options aren't helpful, we offer an inclusion scholarship that will help Rise best reflect Denver. If you feel that you have a perspective and experience that Rise could benefit from we offer scholarships each term for our leveled classes. Apply below.
