Let It Flow: Intro to Freestyle Rap [Musical Improv Workshop]

This workshop is designed for anyone who has an interest in rhyme, musical improvisation, hip hop, and building confidence through rap. During this course, students will have the opportunity to learn short form rap improv games, basic beatboxing skills, the art of storytelling via freestyle rap, developing your swag, rap battling, and finding the beat. The skills that are taught in this class can be applied to stand-up comedy, musical theatre, short form improv, aspiring rappers, boredom while sitting in traffic, or showing off at your next company meeting. Most importantly, this workshop is going to be a BLAST! Everybody gets hyped up at all times, and negatively is not allowed. Come step outside your comfort zone, and freestyle your way into FUN!

Megan Miles a.k.a. Megan8Miles, has been freestyle rapping since 2010. She was a co-founder / performer in Denver’s first hip hop improv troupe “SuperBaby.” She was given the MC name “Megan8Miles” after playing the role of Eminem, in an improvised remake performance of 8Mile. (It also helps that her initials are M & M, and that her last name is Miles. You see the connection now) In 2012, Megan competed in her very first rap battle during the Colorado Crush Graffiti Art Festival. Since then, she has competed in over 10 rap battles in CO & NY. Megan has 14 years of improvisation experience, and has studied sketch and improv at Upright Citizens Brigade in New York. She co-created an all female hip hop improv troupe known as “Mountain Coast.” They have been performing together since 2019, and have done shows in Los Angeles and Albuquerque.  In 2020, Megan was a two time competitor and winner of  “Freestyle Mondays Rap Game Show.” She has also been featured on “Supreme Bars” as a recurring contestant.  Megan was invited to be in the very first beta class of “Freestyle Love Supreme Academy,” (co-created by Lin Manuel Miranda) in which she sharpened her hip hop improv skills. She was also an original tester of the Facebook App Bars, which is a freestyle rap application available on all Android and iPhone devices. She loves 90’s hip hop, and is ecstatic to teach this workshop!
